Does your packaging lack time for real-time aging processes?

For sterile products that need to be brought to market quickly, but more importantly safely, accelerated aging testing of packaging materials according to ASTM F1980 is advised. It must be ensured that the product still safely fulfills its function when the specified best-before date is reached.

In our laboratory, we proceed as follows: The packaging is exposed to controlled high temperatures and, if desired, relative humidities in our climate chambers. In this scenario, the selected packaging materials age faster and allow a scientifically controlled look into the future. Thus, real-time storage is simulated in a shortened time. Testing is performed at the standard recommended temperature of 55°C and relative humidity between 45-55%.

Real-time aging as the key comparator

All data collected from accelerated aging must then be verified with data from real-time aging. Real-time aging storage, in turn, takes place at a standard climate of 23°C and a relative humidity of 50%. We have seven climatic chambers on our premises for accelerated aging testing. We can offer you this test in combination with transport simulations and other integrity tests.

Testing Standards & Equipment

  • ASTM F1980
  • Constant climate chambers: Temperatures up to 75°C and a relative humidity of 90% can be realized.

To be able to submit the appropriate offer, we need the following information:

  • Aging temperature
  • Real-time storage temperature
  • Storage time to be simulated

Based on this, the correct duration of Accelerated Aging is calculated.

The price is determined based on the volume to be tested. Therefore, the outer dimension and the number of test samples are required for quotation.
