Package testing according to ISTA and ASTM test methods
The most important task of packaging: protect your product!
It doesn’t matter to us whether the package is large or small, long or short, flat or bulky, light or heavy. We can test any sample in our laboratories. We drop it, subject it to great pressure, and change the climatic conditions. Everything that can happen to your packaging on its way from you to its destination. Our transport simulation is also used to avoid oversizing the packaging.
Individual inspection programs for your individual packages
In addition to the standardized test procedures of ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) and ASTM (American Society for Transit and Materials) for packages, we offer customized and individual test programs entirely according to your needs.
Because, depending on the route and means of transport, packages are subjected to a wide variety of stresses during transportation: e.g. climatic, mechanical-dynamic or static loads. Whether it is transported by plane, ship, train or truck in the process, must not change anything about the most important result: Your product must arrive at its destination undamaged. For this purpose, we offer a variety of possible programs to simulate the transport. We will be happy to advise you and see together what is best for your product.
AMAZON: Shipping without frustration. Sounds utopian? It’s not!
The ISTA 6 series includes company-specific test programs. Amazon also certifies its retailers’ packaging systems on this basis. The goals include adequate protection against shipping stresses and the avoidance of additional repackaging by Amazon, as well as low complaint rates. The next higher certification level “Frustration Free Packaging” (FFP) also requires that your packaging and packaging material is recyclable and can be unpacked by the end customer within a short time.
Standards: Package testing
- ASTM D4169 – DC 13: This standard simulates the worldwide shipment of packages by truck and aircraft. The tests are similar to those in ISTA tests in a different composition and sequence. The same applies to ASTM D7386 (TS1-TS4)
The standard is about package shipping. - ASTM D7386 TS1, TS2, TS3 and TS4
- ASTM D4169: Standard Practice for Performance Testing of Shipping Containers and Systems
- ASTM D7386-16: Standard Practice for Performance Testing of Packages for Single Parcel Delivery Systems
- ASTM D4332:Standard Practice for Conditioning Containers, Packages, or Packaging Components for Testing
- ASTM F2825: Standard Practice for Climatic Stressing of Packaging Systems for Single Parcel Delivery
- ISO 12048: Packaging – Packages ready for shipment – Compression and stacking test with compression testing machine
- DIN EN ISO 2234: Packaging – Packages ready for shipment and loading units, stacking test under static load
- DIN EN ISO 12048: Packaging, Packages ready for shipment, Compression and stacking test using a compression testing machine
- DIN EN 22248: Packaging, packages ready for shipment – Vertical impact test (free fall)
- DIN EN ISO 2233: Packaging – Packages ready for shipment; Climatic pre-treatment for testing
- DIN EN ISO 2247: Packaging – Packages ready for shipment and unit loads – Low fixed frequency vibration test
- DIN EN ISO 13355: Packaging – Packages and loading units ready for shipment – Vibration test with vertical noise excitation

To be able to submit the appropriate offer, we need the following information:
- Dimensions and weight of the sample
- Is there already a standard according to which should be tested?
- Is the content a dangerous good?
- What is the stack height (during transport / in the warehouse)
- What is in the sample (like also whether liquid / fragile – so whether glass or ceramic)
- Is there already a specified drop height?
- Does the customer sell through Amazon? (If so, does Amazon pack its products in Amazon packaging, or does Amazon ship in the customer’s packaging and just sticks a label on it?)
- Is there already a standard according to which should be tested?
