Many export packages only become complete with the use of laminated films. Films are an ideal supplement to the actual packaging, because they are light, flexible and reliably protect the packaged goods from moisture and dirt.
However, technical films differ according to wall thickness, permeability and strength. Film testing can be used to test the basic properties and determine load limits.
Foil Testing Defines Properties and Applications
Thanks to different compositions, a wide variety of film qualities can be produced. This allows the films to have different properties that qualify them for diverse applications.
We test the mechanical properties of technical films:
- How strong is the heat-seal layer on the composite film?
- How strong are the sealing seams?
- How robust is the composite material against punctures?
- And what about the barrier properties?
- How resistant is the film, for example, against oil and water vapor?
Testing Standards & Equipment
- Tensile strength and elongation at break according to DIN EN ISO 527-3
- Film thickness and film width according to DIN 53370
- Dart drop test according to ASTM D1709, method A
